Uber CEO resigns from Trump Advisory Council
Uber’s CEO, Travis Kalanick, has resigned from his position as a member
of Trump's economic advisory council after the massive boycott and
criticism of the company.
Uber's non participation in the work stoppage called by the New York
Taxi Alliance after Donald Trump announced a ban on immigration of seven
Muslim countries coupled with the CEO's position in advisory council
led to the massive criticism and boycott of about 200,000 users.
Mr Travis Kalanick first released a statement on the issue explaining
his stand on the ban order. He revealed he was not in support of the ban
and explained ways Uber will help all affected drivers. He however
defender his position in the council saying
"Ever since Uber’s founding we’ve had to work with governments and politicians of all political persuasions across hundreds of cities and dozens of countries."His explanation didn't help much as within a day, their competitor, Lyft surged up to the 5th most downloaded app on iOs. Mr Kalanick decided to leave the advisory council altogether. In a memo sent out to the press, he wrote;
Dear Team,
Earlier today I spoke briefly with the President about the immigration executive order and its issues for our community. I also let him know that I would not be able to participate on his economic council. Joining the group was not meant to be an endorsement of the President or his agenda but unfortunately it has been misinterpreted to be exactly that.
I spent a lot of time thinking about this and mapping it to our values. There are a couple that are particularly relevant:
Inside Out - The implicit assumption that Uber (or I) was somehow endorsing the Administration’s agenda has created a perception-reality gap between who people think we are, and who we actually are.
Just Change - We must believe that the actions we take ultimately move the ball forward. There are many ways we will continue to advocate for just change on immigration but staying on the council was going to get in the way of that. The executive order is hurting many people in communities all across America. Families are being separated, people are stranded overseas and there’s a growing fear the U.S. is no longer a place that welcomes immigrants.
Immigration and openness to refugees is an important part of our country’s success and quite honestly to Uber’s. I am incredibly proud to work directly with people like Thuan and Emil, both of whom were refugees who came here to build a better life for themselves. I know it has been a tough week for many of you and your families, as well as many thousands of drivers whose stories are heartfelt and heart-wrenching.
Please know, your questions and stories on Tuesday, along with what I heard from drivers, have kept me resilient and reminded me of one of our most essential cultural values, Be Yourself. We will fight for the rights of immigrants in our communities so that each of us can be who we are with optimism and hope for the future.

Snitch Alert: Uber CEO snitches on other CEOs that supported Trump
Uber CEO, Travis Kalanick, has refused to go down alone after he
received backlash for supporting Donald Trump and he proceeded to
expose other CEOs who also support Trump.
In an email to his staff on Saturday, Kalanick said that the company opposes the executive orders by Trump and will compensate affected employees. But he did not stop there, he went on to reveal in detail the names and companies of other CEOs who support and serve as advisers to Donald Trump.
The email read in part; "This is why I agreed in early December to join President Trump’s economic advisory group along with Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla), Mary Barra (Chairwoman/CEO of General Motors), Indra Nooyi (Chairwoman/CEO of Pepsi), Ginni Rometty (Chairwoman/CEO of IBM), Bob Iger (Chairman/CEO of Disney), Jack Welch (former Chairman of GE), and a dozen other business leaders."
Kalanick is an advisor for Trump’s business group and on Saturday, while the Taxi Union agreed to hold a strike at the JKF airport in protest of the ban on Muslim foreigners, Uber broke the taxi strike and went on to announce on Twitter that surge pricing has been reduced, meaning their prices were made less expensive, thereby undermining the effect of the strike. This prompted a lot of anti-Trump protesters to delete the Uber app from their phones and the hashtag #DeleteUber started trending on Twitter.
Kalanick was not going to suffer the backlash alone so he snitched on other CEOs, but this did not go down well, because, rather than have the criticisms shift from him to the other exposed CEOs, he received an even greater backlash, with most referring to him as "the dude that caught cheating, so he snitched on all his boys.”

Ogun state trader arrested for naming pet dog ‘Buhari’
Efforts by the police to recover the dog, which they intended using as evidence failed. The trader, allegedly instructed his friends to secretly to kill the dog. Now, appeals by his friends and relations for the police to grant him bail failed as the complainant and his kinsmen reportedly threatened to kill the trader if he was released on bail.
A relation to the suspect expressed fears that he may either be poisoned inside a police cell or thrown into jail. According to the person, “Chinakwe is a lover of dogs and he names them after things that tickle him. He bought this dog a year ago and named it Buhari. Unfortunately, some Northerners, who dominate the vicinity where he resides misconstrued his intention and connived to take him up. The complainant then claimed it was derogatory because his father answers Buhari.”
The acting Police spokesman in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, ASP, stated that indeed Joe bought a dog, but he inscribed Buhari on both sides of the dog's body and paraded the dog around the area.
"One Mallam lodged a complaint and when our men got there, we found out that it was true. You know such thing can cause serious breach of the peace and ethnic or religious unrest. We are charging him to court for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.”

Republicans Sign Letter Urging RNC To Stop Funding Donald Trump's Campaign

As Trump continues to slip in the polls, the signatories are asking for the party to instead focus resources on maintaining the GOP's majority in the House and Senate.
The letter, obtained by Politico, says Trump's chances of winning in November are 'evaporating day by day' and that his 'recklessness' and 'incompetence' risks handing the election to Hillary Clinton by a landslide.
It lists a string of problems with Trump's campaign, including his many controversial remarks, his refusal to release tax returns and his claim that he may not uphold NATO treaty requirements.
'We believe that Donald Trump's divisiveness, recklessness, incompetence, and record-breaking unpopularity risk turning this election into a Democratic landslide, and only the immediate shift of all available RNC resources to vulnerable Senate and House races will prevent the GOP from drowning with a Trump-emblazoned anchor around its neck,' says a draft form of the letter.
This should not be a difficult decision, as Donald Trump's chances of being elected president are evaporating by the day.'
It adds Trump's actions, such as attacking Gold Star families, praising dictators and calling on Russia to find Clinton's missing emails, have 'alienated millions of voters of all parties.'
Those recent outrages have built on his campaign of anger and exclusion, during which he has mocked and offended millions of voters, including the disabled, women, Muslims, immigrants, and minorities,' the letter says.
