Yesterday the 9th of December happens to be Tanzania's 54th independence day and instead of celebrating the took to their streets to sweep, even their president helped out.
The new president Dr John Pombe Magufuli told his people to use the day to clean up the environment and Tanzanians responded in their thousands.
And the new president even joined hundreds of residents in the main city Dar es Salaam to take part in the public clean-up operation. He did his clean up duties at the famous Ferry fish market near the State House; the country's Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan tackled the famous Oyster-bay beach, and the Prime Minister Majaliwa tackled Kariakoo!
