A veteran police officer fell 10 feet from a roof while trying to catch a suspected thief.
The bodycam video of the officer was released by the police in
Utah. The dramatic incident happened when West Valley Police were called
to the Shell station located at 4018 W. 4100 South, on a report of a
man who was loitering and acting suspiciously, West Valley police
spokesman, Roxeanne Vainuku said.
Police said 32-year-old man Sergio Lopez Ramirez trying to avoid
arrest ran into a construction area before he was later spotted on the
roof of a shopping mall and told the police he had a grenade, one of the
officers lost his balance and fell to the ground while chasing him.
The one-minute video released by police shows the officer losing
his balance, falling and hitting the pavement. The officer was lightly
wounded and was taken to a hospital.
The suspect was also taken to the hospital after being wounded
during the incident. Ramirez was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake
County Jail. He faces charges of threat of terrorism, criminal mischief,
assault on a police officer, fleeing, interfering with an arrest and
disorderly conduct.
