Sadio Mane reveals he spurned Jose Mourinho this summer
Sadio Mane, the former Southampton winger who joined Liverpool for £30m this summer, has claimed he rejected an approach Manchester United before signing at Anfield.
The Senegalese forward became Jurgen Klopp’s most expensive signing of the transfer window when he elected to leave St Mary’s last month, but bitter rivals United were also interested in luring him to Old Trafford.
Mane claims the influence of Liverpool’s enigmatic German manager proved the difference between the two and spoke of his excitement of joining the Anfield club just under three weeks ahead of the new Premier League season.
Asked about United’s interest, Mane told the Liverpool Echo: “Yes, it was true. There was interest from a lot of clubs, not just Manchester United, but as soon as I knew Liverpool were interested I just felt it was the right club with the right coach. It was right for me to come here.
“Liverpool are a massive club with a big history that has won many trophies and as soon as I was told of the possibility to come here and I knew the manager wanted me I said yes.
